This book gave me pretty bad anxiety, because I wanted to know whether the characters would live or die and if they would get off the island at some point. Luckily, this book keeps the story fresh and there’s never really a moment to just chill.

Reason is, Swiss Family Robinson made me never want to read another stranded-on-an-island-book again. I was kind of iffy on reading this book, even though I very much wanted to find out what would happen next for Darius and Gray. Like the title suggests, this story does take place on an island. Nothing comes easy, and when 75 bricks of cocaine is discovered onboard the ship, it becomes clear that the traffickers were also working alongside a drug cartel as a side venture and escape for the boys becomes a whole lot messier. But if you think that everything is easy going with the sex traffickers dead, then you haven’t learned anything from reading the first book. Darius has the help of his younger brother, Ryan, at his side, and the help of his sister, Willow, at home to handle their escape. In this story, we get to see everything from Darius’ POV. Just because they’re no longer on the ship doesn’t mean their pain is over. And not just his trials, but the other boys he met in Auctioned. I was, frankly, rather shocked to have read other Cara Dee books since and learned that her backlist is less…murderous? Getting to know the family and friends where Gray comes from is an extra layer on top of everything and it just tears at my heartstrings because of the horrors Gray has been put through. I think it definitely bordered on what would be considered a dark romance, but Darius turned out to be a decent guy. So, the first Cara Dee book I’ve ever read was Auctioned, and it was quite a book to start out with because it is so intense and emotionally draining. This is the aftermath of all the horrific things that happened in the first book. For a man whose reputation was built on being ice-cold under pressure, Darius is beginning to discover how good it feels to burn. įacing new dangers and an uncertain future, Darius keeps Gray close and is soon forced to accept that this has become much more than an assignment. A mission to save one hometown favorite son was turning into a quest to rescue thirteen traumatized young men against odds so steep, he’d need an oxygen mask to scale them. Like Murphy’s Law advised, anything that could go wrong, would. But this job had something none of the others did: Gray Nolan. It was supposed to be an easy in-and-out job. I will get you off this island, and I will bring you home.” Before you read further, you should read Auctioned. Stranded is the second book in The Auctioned Series.
